Washington, D.C.
The Media for Democracy Foundation (MFD) announces a program for Ecuadorian journalists focused on Ensuring Accountability through In-Depth Reporting, held in Washington, D.C., from June 8 to 12, 2025. Sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Ecuador, the program aims to familiarize participants with institutions and initiatives that promote accountability in the United States. The program will also encourage reporting on the United States as a partner to tackle organized crime. Participants will gain insight into best practices for strengthening journalism and civil society accountability. The program consists of two phases.
First, the Media for Democracy Foundation will organize a virtual orientation session for six selected participants before the Washington-based program. This session will provide detailed information about the agenda and expectations, allowing participants to understand the program better and receive tips to maximize their experience during the intensive Washington, D.C. phase.
In the second phase, participants will engage in a five-day program in Washington, D.C., which includes meetings and training sessions with journalists, civil society accountability advocates, and government agencies that address the challenges in reporting on and securing accountability for bad actors involved in money laundering and organized crime. The program will provide online editorial coaching and mentorship after participants return home.
The selected journalists will learn new techniques for using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in investigative reporting, become more familiar with public policies and best practices for promoting accountability in public and international institutions, and acquire skills for collaborative journalism with social impact.
The program covers all expenses for airfare, meals, and accommodations. Visa application costs are not included.
